Residential Care Program (Heaven's Home Children's Home)

For most children, home is something they never have to think about, a place that's simply there, every day, without question. For the roughly 20 children currently living at Heaven's Home, that certainty didn't come easily. Some arrived after losing both parents, others after being removed from unsafe or unstable situations, and some because there was simply no family member left able to care for them. Our Residential Care Program exists to give each of them what every child deserves: a real home, not just a roof.

Life at Heaven's Home is built around the ordinary rhythms that make a house feel like home. Meals are shared together, not just as a routine but as a moment of connection, everyone gathered, everyone fed. Afternoons often mean games in the compound, group play, running, laughing, the kind of noise that fills a place with life rather than silence. Evenings bring quieter moments: homework, conversation, and the simple presence of caregivers who know each child by name, not by case number.

Our care goes well beyond food and shelter. Every child in our residential program is enrolled in school through our Education Support Program, receives regular health checkups through our Health & Nutrition Program, and has access to counseling and psychosocial support when the weight of what they've been through needs more than daily routine can hold. Older children are gradually introduced to life skills and, where age-appropriate, early exposure to vocational training, so that growing up at Heaven's Home prepares them not just to survive childhood, but to step into adulthood with real capability and confidence.

What makes this program different from a typical institution is intention. We don't see ourselves as a facility housing children, we see ourselves as a family that happens to be larger than most. Our house staff and caregivers are trained not just in child welfare protocols, but in something harder to teach: genuine warmth, the kind that lets a child who has lost so much still learn to trust, to play, to simply be a child again.

We also recognize that residential care is not the end goal for every child. Where safe, supported family reunification or guardianship placement becomes possible, we work toward it actively, in coordination with our Child Protection & Welfare and Family & Community Strengthening programs, always guided by what's genuinely best for that specific child, not a one-size-fits-all outcome.

Currently, our home cares for approximately 20 children, ranging from early childhood through their teenage years, each with their own story, and each held with the same commitment: that no matter what brought them here, this is a place where they belong.

Key Activities:

Providing daily shelter, meals, and a stable home environment for children in our direct care
Coordinating school enrollment and academic support for every resident child
Facilitating regular health checkups and access to medical care
Offering counseling and psychosocial support for children processing loss, trauma, or difficult transitions
Organizing daily structured and free-play activities to support healthy childhood development
Introducing older children to age-appropriate life skills and vocational exposure
Assessing and pursuing safe family reunification or guardianship placement where appropriate
Training and supporting house caregivers in trauma-informed, child-centered care practices

Expected Outcomes:

Every child in residential care has consistent access to shelter, nutrition, education, and healthcare
Improved emotional wellbeing and a genuine sense of safety and belonging among resident children
Stronger school attendance and academic performance among children living at the home
A growing number of children successfully reunified with family or placed in safe, supported guardianship where appropriate
Older youth transitioning out of residential care with the life skills and support needed for independence
A consistently trained, stable caregiving team capable of providing genuinely nurturing, long-term care
