Child Safeguarding & Protection Initiative
The policies, training, and safeguards that keep every child in our care, our programs, and our activities protected, at every level of our organization.
Protecting children isn't only about responding when something goes wrong, it starts with building an organization where harm has as little room to happen as possible in the first place. The Child Safeguarding & Protection Initiative is Heaven's Home's internal commitment to that standard: the policies, screening, training, and reporting systems that govern how every staff member, volunteer, and partner interacts with the children in our care.
Every individual who works or volunteers with children at Heaven's Home, whether at our residential home, in our community programs, or during outreach activities, undergoes background screening and safeguarding training before they're given any access to children. This isn't a one-time formality; our staff and volunteers receive ongoing training on recognizing signs of abuse or neglect, understanding appropriate boundaries, and knowing exactly how and when to report a concern. We maintain a clear, confidential reporting pathway so that any concern, raised by staff, a volunteer, a child, or a member of the public, is taken seriously and acted on promptly.
Our safeguarding framework also governs the everyday details that are easy to overlook: how photos of children are used and shared, how visitors interact with residents at our home, how activities are supervised, and how case information is kept confidential. We regularly review and update our policies to reflect current best practice in child protection, and we welcome scrutiny, safeguarding is not something we consider ever fully finished.
This initiative works closely with our Child Protection & Welfare Program, which handles community-based case response, but exists specifically to ensure that Heaven's Home itself, our staff, our home, our activities, holds itself to the same standard we advocate for in the wider community. A child should never have to be protected from the very place that promised to care for them, and we take that responsibility seriously at every level of our organization.
